When you think of finance, you probably think of stock quotes, yelling brokers, and general chaos on Wall Street. However, finance is so much more. If you help people save for the future, you basically have a career in finance. If you open up a new doughnut shop, you are involved in finance. Your grandfather's retirement plan, your daughters wedding day, and your son's college tuition are also a part of this puzzle. Almost everything we do requires money. Thus, finance enters the picture somehow. As you can see, it is a vast field that extends far beyond the hubbub of traditionally accepted stock and investment markets.

Although doughnut shops might come and go, most finance jobs are pretty secure for the most part. After all, when the economy is up, financial analysts, stock brokers, and investment bankers are in high demand. They work around the clock looking for ways to take advantage of the extra business and investment options. When the stock market is down, these occupations are also in demand. They work around the clock trying to figure out how to correct the economy and encourage growth.
Salary potential
How much you can make depends on a number of factors. What industry are you in? What is your exact position? How is the economy doing? How saturated is the market for your particular expertise? What level of education do you have? There are many variables involved. You can make as little as $20,000 a year to millions of dollars a year. Finance is about options.
